M.A. Akanksha Bisoyi

Researcher and Doctoral Candidate

Akanksha Bisoyi is a Research Assistant and Doctoral Candidate at the Professorship for Law, Science and Technology. At TUM, her research focuses on how the function and role of ‘Rule of Law’ can influence, intervene and guide in setting design goals, choices, and standardizations to configure Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) at different layers, keeping in mind its relation with humans and society and how it would impact the historical and social dimension of Rule of Law ecosystem. She explores the possibilities of shaping a harmonious Rule of Law driven development and deployment of DLT. In this context, she is very much interested in developing legal models, and interactive platforms to visualize the relationship between law and emerging technologies such as DLT, AI.

Prior to joining TUM, Akanksha worked at ITU and UNCTAD Geneva. At ITU, she was engaged in policy and research analysis of issues relating to Child Online Protection and the role of ICTs in relation to global challenges such as gender digital divide. She created a relational map to show how Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Convention on the Rights of Child (CRCs) are linked in a digital environment. At UNCTAD, she assisted in research related to patents, digital economy, capacity-building on intellectual property and the transfer and dissemination of technology. She has worked closely with FAO as a part of International Organizations Law Clinic IHEID Geneva.

Akanksha  has a Masters in International Law from Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva (Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement), where she wrote her Master’s thesis titled “Improving ‘Availability’ Dimension of Food Security – Balancing farmers’ rights and commercial plant breeders’ rights through GM crop specific IPR in India”. She brings with her a very diverse set of academic and professional accomplishments ranging from law and jurisprudence, international law, human rights to sustainable development and technology.
