Cosimo Simoncini ist Doktorand und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Innovationsforschung (ISPP) der TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology (STS Department). Er hat einen M.A. in Science and Technology Studies (TUM) sowie einen B.A. in Soziologie und Technology Studies mit Nebenfächern in Statistik und Ökonometrie (TU Berlin).
Sein Dissertationsprojekt untersucht, wie paradigmatische Verschiebungen im Bereich von Dual-Use-Innovationen – darunter Drohnentechnologien, KI-Systeme und Satelliteninfrastrukturen – in zwei europäischen Industrieregionen, Emilia-Romagna und Bayern, kulturell und institutionell plausibel gemacht werden. Ausgehend vom Konzept der Innovationskulturen und der Politik technologischer Souveränität analysiert das Projekt, wie Prozesse der Militarisierung und Versicherheitlichung auf regionaler Ebene in Norditalien und Süddeutschland wahrgenommen werden.
Seine weiteren Forschungsinteressen umfassen die europäische Wissenschafts- und Innovationspolitik, die Epistemologie von Risiko- und Gefahrenmodellen sowie die Dynamiken der Einführung und Ablehnung von KI in KMU und regionalen Industriekontexten.
