Mei is a research associate and doctoral candidate in the Science and Technology Policy Research Group. Her research interest focuses on how assumptions about gender, race, ethnicity, class and sexuality intersect, shape, and are constructed by scientific knowledge and technologies. She is particularly interested in exploring this question for life sciences, in organizational contexts, and through cross-country comparisons. As of 2026, she works in a DFG-funded project on ancient DNA technologies (PI: Prof. Dr. Ruth Müller) which examines how archaeogenetic research practices and knowledge shape ideas about human difference, kinship, and relatedness.
In 2024, Mei earned an M.A. in Responsibility in Science, Engineering and Technology (RESET) from the Technical University of Munich. Her master’s thesis examined how social scientists interpret and negotiate the concept of intersectionality when studying organizational policies. She also worked on projects focusing on social and economic inequalities as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research and the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy. Before pursuing her master’s, Mei completed her Bachelor’s in physics and philosophy in the US and worked as a management consultant in Japan.
